Thomas Nicolaou

Thomas is a British, Oxford-based visual artist, graphic designer and tutor. He is a graduate from the MA Photographic Studies (now MA Photography Arts) course at the University of Westminster. He works as an Associate Lecturer for the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University.

His MA Photographic Studies final project Demarcation focussed on the social-political and historical narratives of demarcated landscapes (Cyprus and Oxfordshire) within collective memory, through the use of institutional archives and the family album.

His practice-based research explores the historical narrative(s) represented by the photographic image and how identities and histories are constructed. His practice includes uses of photography, text, archives and/or photographic collections.

His current project explores colonial British archaeologists’ photographic representations of Cyprus from photographic collections belonging to the University of Oxford.
